On the Trail Again
In the summer it is single tracks, and the winter brings snow biking. We have awesome year round cycling with the best scenery!
Snow bikes--also called fat tire bikes, have transformed cycling in Alaska to a year round activity. The mittens on the bicycle are called pogies and allow for a lighter glove to be worn in the cold weather
Kristina's non winter bike is a Niner Air Nine with Industry Nine Wheelset. The bike weighs in at 24 pounds.
I ride a Niner Jet Nine. Chris King hubs laced to Stans Flow rims with a RockShox SID XX World Cup fork
When it comes to the pavement, I ride a Rans Rifle recumbent. While it may look odd, it is very comfortable and the low profile has helped me to achieve some amazing speeds. My top speed sop far (yes, downhill) is 44.9MPH.
I am a year round commuter, and have more miles on my bicycles than on my truck. My winter bike is a Borealis Yampa. Full carbon fiber, including the HED Big Deal rims means this fat bike weighs in at only 25 pounds.
